Last Sunday Miley Cyrus’ new album Bangerz began its pre-sale with the release of a new song “Wrecking Ball”. This was smart of her because she knew everyone would be searching and talking about her performance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards that everyone seems to have hated(not me). I feel like with the release of “We Can’t Stop”, the music video for that single, and then Sunday’s performance, she was wanting it made clear that she has grown-up and isn’t Hannah Montana anymore, nor is she the little girl singing about life’s journey like in “The Climb”. Last Sunday’s show stealing performance was the cherry on top of this plan to make sure you knew she was an adult. I think everyone has gotten the memo at this point.
“Wrecking Ball” sounds like the perfect song to release post-VMA because it has a throwback to Miley’s older stuff while sounding more mature. You can also hear that tone in that can only be about Miley Cyrus’ voice. The sound is also a lot calmer than the party song that is “We Can’t Stop”. “Wrecking ball” is a breakup song that tells the story of her being in love with a guy who doesn’t seem to return it and hurts her. Even with all that she still will always love him. It is a very pretty sounding song, and people are seemingly really liking it. It of course has been well received by the group of fans that seemed alienated by “We Can’t Stop”. Take a listen down below to “Wrecking Ball” below.
