You Don’t Own Me- Grace feat. G-Eazy

Australian singer-songracegwriter, Grace, may just have a summer hit on her hands. The song is actually a cover of the 1967 song of the same name by, Lesley Gore.

The original song came out during the feminist movement. It shouldn’t be too hard to see that if you listen to the lyrics. Even the tit;e of the song “You Don’t Own Me” should be a harbinger of what the song is about and what its theme is about.

The song really appeals to me because it goes from these rapping and techno parts, to the classic sounding parts where Grace’s vocals can best be showcased. Female empowerment is still an important part of song writing and I think that this will appeal to young women across the world today.
