TikTok Ban: Why It Won’t Happen In The United States

TikTok was banned in India which caused the Trump administration to come out and say they might ban TikTok in the United States. But Trump’s motives may be personal. TikTok is doing a lot to make a ban seem unreasonable, however I will give you the reasons why people think it might be banned.

The Story

Donald Trump has been targeting the popular viral app TikTok due to his administration’s ongoing fight with China. Despite the app storing U.S. users information on servers in Virginia, they still claim it is a risk because it is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

Trump has signed an executive order that give ByteDance 45 days to sell the U.S. operations of TikTok to a company here in the United States. The main company we’ve been hearing is interested in TikTok is Microsoft. Many users are mixed on them owning it, but at least it would be safe and would remain unblocked.

The past week there have whispers that Apple and Twitter have also talked to ByteDance about purchasing the U.S. operations.

Twitter would be an interesting choice because they purchased Vine and owned it for a couple of years. They shuttered the popular app not due to lack of popularity, but due to them not sure how to monetize it. TikTok would come fully monetized with the sale.

TikTok has also vowed to create several thousand jobs in the U.S. over the next three years. They have gotten an American CEO who was formerly employed by The Walt Disney Company. They have also announced plans to pay U.S. based creators on the TikTok platform.

Never say never, but these are some of the many reasons I don’t think TikTok will be going anywhere.
